Limit local gun storage laws

I think responsible firearm ownership is maintaining the security and control of any firearm I own. If I leave a firearm vulnerable to theft due to poor security or storage in let us say... my automobile glove box where some fatherless punk who breaks in to my vehicle and obtains possession of my firearm, I should be at the very least guilty of enabling a felon by neglect and poor judgment for leaving a firearm vulnerable to theft. That is arming a thief making him infinitely more dangerous than just a thief.

Come on people, you can buy a steel keyed lock box from Academy Sports with a steel tether cable for $20.00 to lock up any handgun while you do your shopping. They also sell a lockbox with more security for a few dollars more. You say well that won't stop everyone but it will stop someone who isn't prepared for the encounter of a security lock box on a teather.

There should be serious consequences for leaving a firearm vulnerable to theft. A hefty fine at the very least and jail time if the weapon is used in a crime and even more penalties if someone is shot or killed.

So how do you secure your weapons at home? I wonder.

I agree that weapons should be secured so some scumbag doesn't run off with them. A good locking device of some sort in your vehicle is a great idea. I have a Ram with a center console and there is a lockbox made specifically made for it. I have several lockboxes and hidden boxes in the house that secure what’s mine.
