I have pretty much infinite access to wasp grubs, but wood beetle pupae are my second go-to in winter.
Then there are strips of fermented liver and Ivory for catfish, and the good old standby of night crawlers. what works well for you?

I usually stick with night crawlers or cut bait, but those grubs sound like a game-changer

I am very confident with white spinnerbaits when it comes to luring bass. It work almost anywhere, any season.

And yeah, nothing beats fresh-cut shad if you want to catch some cats.

I've never had the chance to try wasp grubs, but now I'm curious. Do you usually fish with them live or do you go for the preserved ones? That kind of bait could really change the game in those tough fishing spots.

If you get them too late in the season, the little buggers can sting. My thing is to stun them with gas fumes or starting fluid if it's early in the cycle and use a rubber glove, just in case, OR smother them in bacon grease for added scent if it's hatch time. either way has its merits.

A little tip, if you use wood as heat and you normally do one cold-weather run, lay a 6-foot pine log off to one side, and when you see the bark coming off, strip it for the grubs and then burn the log. win-win. they keep quite well in the freezer until you go.
