Are there any M-1 Garand fanboys in here?

I recently got my hands on a minty one that had been refurbished in the 50s and parked in a gun safe for 60 years. None of the serials match, but all the parts are as new, it came with a good condition bayonet and 500 rounds of ammo in clips. I have a thing for vintage weapons. :)

Got mine in '88 from DCM. To shoot a qualifying match, I drove through a downpour, waded to the clubhouse in about 4" of water, and shot the match in a drizzle. The r/o's used a canoe to get to the target berm and score us. DCM lost my registration info, and had to pull some special strings to get my gun to me. It's an awesome rifle, and the trouble was well worth it.

I got a thumb that isn't as much as a fan as I am. :)
Garrand thumb is no fun. After you slam it once or twice you will get on top of the learning curve. The detachable magazine M-14 fixed all that. Speaking if the M-14, a fellow came into the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds gun show Sunday with a fully transferable M-14 and a HK-51. Never saw an M-51 before. What a weapon. Short barrel, collapsible stock, select fire .308. He did not have his M-16 or his M-79 with him but I have seen his TRW M-79 a few years ago. This "Destructive Device" is very expensive but if you have the money, it is also fully transferable. It was my weapon of choice when on perimeter duty in Tay Ninh.

I shoot lefty, I learned to block the charging handle with my hand, and keep my thumb
happy if I screwed up. Word has it Heritage Arms is about to start marketing newly made
M-1s soon, and from the pics, maybe even in stainless steel!
