I was killing time and casting off my sister’s dock on Lake Burton about 10 am the other morning. I was targeting bream or bass using a small white beetle spin, letting it sink to deeper water and slowly retrieving it. Bam! A decent hit, thought I must have a small bass on. Reeled that sucker in and it was a 12” musky. I was quite surprised as it was the first one I’d ever caught or even seen in person. Beautiful fish. I had no idea they were in that lake.

So a 12" musky might not sound like much when you're talking about trophy fish, but catching your first one is pretty darn exciting. They’ve got this ancient vibe that are just a tad intimidating. I still remember the first time I saw one up close. It was such a shock how different they looked compared to any other fish I’d reeled in. It's crazy to think that Lake Burton is home to these beauties. I definitely wouldn’t have expected that.

Lake Burton sounds like a paradise for any fisherman! I've always had a yearning to dive deeper into that area, and your story just makes it even more tempting. It’s incredible how these lakes can surprise us with their hidden treasures. I can visualize the whole scene. you on the dock, and then that thrilling strike. It’s those moments that truly make fishing special. You never know what’s going to take the bait, and that element of surprise is what keeps us coming back for more. I’m so glad you got to experience that magic firsthand!
