As they say, any journey always starts with the first step and so my next AR is going to be 7.62X39 and this is the first piece. Got it today. New Frontier Armory AR-15 Stripped Forged Lower. Over the next two months, the rest of it will come together!

Already ordered one and on the way with a LPK. Monday or Tuesday upper and barrel will be ordered. Getting a New Frontier Armory AR-15 Stripped Forged upper to match the lower. Still debating which flavor barrel, though. I am thinking a Del-ton. Anybody have an idea there? A 16" heavy barrel with a 1:10 twist I think is the best choice.

I was thinking of building a 6.8. I built one yrs ago using a tim hicks barrel when he was in North Carolina. It was very nice and accurate. I sold it and revert it!

I just saw a nuts build online. I'll try it on my next one. The guy took his upper and aluminum handguard, sandblasted them, then buffed them, and finally baked on a vehicle clear coat. The contrast with the black parts is stunning!

I was contemplating a 6.8, but I decided on a 6.5 Grendel as soon as I finish this 7.62X39. This AR was going to be the 6.5, but I got the hankering for the 7.62X39 for some weird reason. Got possessed I guess.

Tossing out a question. Looking into mags for this animal (7.62X39) and find an under abundance of mags. I find that Duramag is about the better folks that have them. Anyone know of anyone else especially someone that poly mags? Not partial to metal mags at all.

Thanks Magus! I have been through all of those though. Same issue I have found everywhere else, all the AR mags for 7.62X39 are stainless. I am looking polymer. Naturally I went to Magpul first and Promag with no avail. I know a guy that has several of them, but they came with his rifle when he bought it, so I know they exist. One of the biggest issues I have heard about this caliber in an AR is failing to feed. What has been found is a lot of the metal mags bending the feed lips bending when hitting things like ground, asphalt etc. People have a hard time bending the lips back into a good, straight alignment. So just trying to get away from that. I do have a pair of 30 round ones to use when I get it built though.

Good news on the parts front, all the lower parts have come in as of today! I will post a pic tomorrow. Upper parts are hung up. The barrel got lost, and the shipper had to send. One lower piece though, the trigger still waiting on as well. I decided to go with a Schmid inside AR15 2 stage trigger with Nickel Boron coating

I thought I posted it, but here are the barrel specs;

Caliber: 7.62x39mm
Barrel Length: 16 inches
Barrel Material: 4150 CrMoV
Barrel Thread Pitch: 5/8x24
Barrel Gas System Length: Carbine
Barrel Finish: Black Nitride
Barrel Profile: HBar
Barrel Twist Rate: 1:10
Gas Block Size: .750
Gas Block Finish: Phosphate

I am looking polymer.
Buy a 7.62X39 follower kit and mark your polymer mags with a red Krylon floor plate so you know they only hold 25 rounds, and they're 223.

Hint:
Not going to be reliable.

I heard that hack as well and trying to stay away from that. I know I am a picky SOB. I have known I will be using the metal mags for a while until someone puts out a reliable mag. If that is my only whine on this thing, I will be happy.
