Thread protector users?

Do barrel thread protectors actually serve a purpose, or are they just unnecessary weight?

Well, both in a way. The threaded barrel is for silencers and whatever threaded object you want to hang on the end of your gun, and you have to protect those threads when you have nothing on there. Ergo, thread protector. If you are not going to add a silencer or anything else, then dead weight, although there is not much weight with the extra barrel length and the thread protector itself. So, if you have no plans on adding anything, save the bucks and weight and buy a normal barrel weapon.

I love them! They protect the crown from damage, provide a basis for adding all sorts of evil goodies besides suppressors (I kid you not), I put a 223 muzzle brake on a Ruger MK3, and tightened my groups by 50%! It was a goofy thing built for adding inches to a short-barreled build on an AR but DANG!!! I miss that freak, you could headshot rats at 50 feet!
