My favorite is a 1958 Custom Winchester Pre 64 Model 70 300 H+H, 26" barrel with sights, custom carved stock with cheek piece and sculpted comb nose point, checkered with mullered borders, engraved barrel and silver engraved receiver with scroll, full curl mountain sheep engraved on the floor plate which is marked H+H Zehner Gunsmith Frankfurt, jeweled bolt and follower, Nickel Zielfernrohre Marburg 4-10X scope with claw mounts. Mount is easily detachable with Iron sights easy to use and returns to zero point. I love the German claw mounts.

I like the accuracy, hits hard, but soft recoil. I love the cartridge. Won the 1,000 yard in 1935 and a proven winner!

British L1-A1 (FAL). It goes bang when I pull the trigger, I can adjust the gas flow for
hunting or hotter loads and even with my eyes I can hit a torso target at 300 yards,
the bore is chrome, as is the piston and it balances like a dream! My second is an M-1A
or M-1 Garand.
My trunk junk is an AK-47 however.

The M1 is great, but after I got a Garand thumb when I was 14, I was like, I'm done with that one.

This Swedish m41/B. The rifle is a 1918 m/96 made at Carl Gustafs. The optics are from 1942 made at A Jackenroll. (Ajack) I've hit targets at 800 yds when I shot it in vintage sniper matches.

My second favorite 8X60 Magnum. 1935. Ludwig Schiwy was a highly regarded and innovative gunmaker in Berlin and was Herman Goering's favorite. Goering was the head of the Nazi air force. Avid hunter and high end guns,

This well appointed rifle has 26" half octagon ribbed barrel fitted with one standing, one folding leaf rear and gold bead front sights. A milled out portion on top of rib is engraved with maker's name and address. Caliber is marked on left side and a claw scope base is at rear. Model 98 Mauser action has been fitted with double set triggers, side safety and removable floor plate with push button release. Bolt has had handle reshaped to butter knife type. A claw scope base has been fitted to receiver ring. Full length stock of very nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut measures 14" over basket weave horn buttplate. Grip cap is also horn.

Rifle is fitted with spring loaded pop-up cheekpiece and the separate piece of wood that is necessary to make this modification is exceptionally well chosen for continuation of grain and color. Rifle is mounted with later (Swarovski) Kahles Helia-Super 6X windage adjustable scope with duplex reticle in custom soldered on claw rings (rear with windage).

I particularly the pop-up cheek piece, "Up" I can easily see through the scope. "Down" and pull the claw mount scope and my eye perfectly lines up with the superb iron sights. 8mm / 32 cal has similar to 30.06 ballistics with more punch. I have dies to hand load.

Incredible balance! 7.5 pounds

Thank you for your post and pictures! I love vintage guns. Is the cylinder to hold the scope? Does it have claw mounts?

I like the leather cheek piece. Temping me to post my second favorite rifle.
Yes the cylinder, numbered to the rifle, holds the scope. The mount is a European style side mount and base also numbered to the rifle. You can take the scope and it's mount off the rifle and put it back on a week later and it all still holds zero.

FN SPR (Special Police Rifle) in 308. The US government bought a lot of these for the "counter" sniper role. Mk 4 LR Leupold w/ Harris bi-pod. A very accurate rifle. Reach out and touch someone.IMG_0202 (2).webp
