I'm in the middle of building my AR and I'm stuck whether I should go for a 1:7 or a 1:8 twist rate. I like to mix things up and shoot everything from 55gr-77gr bullets, depending on what's on sale lol. Which twist rate is better for handling that range?

If you’re regularly shooting heavier match-grade rounds, then a 1:7 twist is great for you. But if that's not your everyday thing, it might be a bit much. On the flip side, going with a 1:8 twist gives you a bit more wiggle room. So if you ever feel like trying out some lighter stuff for varmint hunting or just some casual plinking, you’ve got that option too.

If I were setting up an AR and planning to shoot everything from 55gr-77gr, I’d totally go for a 1:8 twist rate without a second thought. It really is the most flexible choice for that range of bullet weights. You get great stability for those heavier 77gr match rounds, but it’s not so intense that it ends up over-stabilizing the lighter 55gr rounds. That’s perfect for just having fun at the range or getting in some good training.

I had a Sport, not sure which one. the lower was of good quality. Whichever one I paid 400$ out the door.

No FA, no cover. it was a beater even new. LOL
I hear Colt is out of the AR biz... guess that name isn't gold after all.
