Summer always feels like the slow season for hunting, but it's a great time to get things in order before the rush kicks in. I've started going through my gear and checking trail cams, trying to stay fit, yet I can't shake the feeling that I'm slacking on other things; what do you all do to stay ahead during these months?

When I could still hunt, I would get at least two boxes of ammo that my Mauser likes, make sure all the knives and hatchets were sharp, and make sure the tool kit was as it should be, check to see that the food locker was stocked and up to date, set up the tent to let it air out and waterproof it, check my vehicle kit (Minor parts, fan belt, oil/TM fluid/PSF/Coolant/water. Make sure the chainsaw and weed eater were fueled and in running shape, air out/wash my hunting clothes, check the medical kit, stash a month's supply of my meds, check my coolers for leaks, pack fresh batteries, update the booze supply, and cigars, check my cooking kit and cast iron for rust, Wash out the water filter and as each thing on my list got done, pack it in my pup trailer.

Heh. Hunting used to be fall chores, along with putting a couple of pigs in the smokehouse and catching and canning fish. :) The secret is a good quality pup trailer, ours was a 1978 Mazda truck bed with a camper top. it doubled as a secondary residence once the tent was up. another thing to consider is quality coolers, once a week we'd go home to refresh the groceries and put our kills/catch in the deep freeze. batteries were always high on the need list.
