What's the story behind your first handgun? Do you still have it, or did you pass it on? I'd love to hear how you feel about it now, and if you have any photos or funny memories to share!

My first handgun was a High Standard Sentinel .22, 9 shot revolver, 6" barrel. I bought it while in college, and mostly used it for plinking. Good gun, but I wanted better, and sold it to a friend for money to buy an S&W. Looking at what they sell for now, I probably should have kept it.

Mine was a Ruger Black Hawk 3 screw with a 9" barrel and a 22 magnum cylinder I inherited from my dad. I must have about a million rounds through it by now.

My first handgun was a 1911 Colt. My father paid $35 for it and it was a treasure to me. I was just 16. I had just gotten my driver's license and was driving my father's brand new 1959 Chevy Biscayne. I kept it underneath my driver's seat. I picked up a few "friends" and was driving around with them. I had shown it to them and put it back under my seat. Several were in the back seat.

When they left, my gun was gone. Someone reached from the back seat, reached under me and took it. I was shattered.

Does this look familiar? I name him "Glock." I like the rear sight in the first picture!

My first was a S&W model 66-2 with a 6" barrel, my dad finally agreed to let me have a pistol. Purchased it from Chuck's Firearms back in 6/25/1982.
That tells you how old I am. :)

That was my first handgun also. Was working at Western Auto in Macon while attending high school. Ended giving it to my mother-in-law for protection as she lived alone in rural South Georgia. That was almost 50 years ago. I picked up its twin on ODT a couple of years ago. Good memories with that old revolver, squirrel hunting and rat shooting at the dump.

Narrows the definition of "friends", doesn't it.

December 1971 I bought a Ruger Single 6 22 LR revolver. Shot it for about 12 years, than traded it, an 8" Colt Trooper Mk3, and $100 for a S&W M52 38 Spl target pistol. Shot the M52 enough that I wore out the hammer / sear. Hammer did not stay cocked, but followed the slide. After a S&W factory rebuild, the gun was sold to someone who wanted it more than I did.

My first was a Glock 27, I purchased it in Stockbridge, at Ed's Pawn Shop. Had a buddy that worked there and got a great deal! That purchase started and infected me with what some refer to as the Disease or SIGness, but fortunately for me I have found a way to tame the systems with trips to my LGS or glancing at the ODT or GB online. I don't like to admit it, but I think Males have every right to allow themselves to understand the healing power of "retail therapy", as our female counterparts do, just at a different type of store than most of the ladies prefer!

The reason for the purchase was I had just recently bought and started a renovation project with my father on a house is the West End of ATL, just down the street from Morehouse. A week or two in, there was a drive by shooting a couple houses up the street with rifle fire. At that point, I decided these hands ain't enough!

That was nearly 18 years ago, and I did not have a clue about carrying concealed. Much knowledge has been accumulated since then, and a lot of it has been gained and attributed to forums such as this one. Back then, I had gotten my CCW, but started off carrying in SOB (Small of Back), and I learned pretty quick that was a mistake.

#1 - If you fall, which I did, you can likely break your tailbone, and/or screw up your back. I had a couple falls during the gutting and remodeling that house with my Pops, and learned that lesson the hard way.

#2 - If you walk into a Subway store to grab a footlong, no homo, you must be careful who stands behind you while you peer into the case of fresh cold cuts! Your Smedium shirt just might ride up on your back and expose what is supposed to be your "CONCEALED" carry. Ask me, I know, and you can lose your appetite real quick, when that someone goes for said SOB holster and G27.

Anyways, I would post a pic of it, but I am pretty sure most of use know how a G27 looks......just like the rest of them Glocks out there!
Excited for the new forum and would love to hear more comments on other's first firearms and experiences!

Remember folks, we were all NOOBS at one time!
